About me

I was born on 6th of August 1981 in Limassol, Cyprus. Went to elementary school, junior high, and high school. At high school I chose the sciences direction which involved physics, chemistry, mathematics with an objective of becoming a mechanical engineer (following father's footsteps). That was not the case though because gradually I felt an interest about technology and specifically, personal computers. This interest lately evolved into a passion which led me to continue my studies in the computer science field.

My thirst for knowledge had to wait though as I had to complete my army service for 26 months in the national guard. In the meantime, I had already applied for a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, USA which I was immediately accepted. The army service finished and I was finally free to continue my studies.

I joined the SIUC team on August 2001 and initiated my studies which I continued for the next 1.5 year. Increasing tuition fees though led me to leave USA and continue and finish my studies as transfer student at New York College Thessaloniki Greece campus, a division of the State University of New York with a GPA 3.8 out of 4.0. During my studies in Greece I had the opportunity to work with distinguished professors and publish 2 articles regarding Website design/security issues.

After finishing my BSc, I decided to further continue my studies in order to achieve an MSc degree. I applied in two universities; UKC (University of Kent) and UCL (University College London) and I was accepted in both institutions. UCL having a greater reputation and ranked as one of the best universities in United Kingdom led me to choose it over the University of Kent. During the 1-year stay in London I had the opportunity to interact with a blend of culture and interact with one of the busiest city in the world. I finished my MSc in Computer Science on September 2006. My academic interests involve issues concerning computer information management such as Databases as well as computer programming using JAVA and C++. In addition, I am greatly interested in the application of these issues in modern economies and organizations. I also extend my interests to the design, testing, and implementation of computer applications using systems analysis and design with software engineering modules.  Moreover, eCommerce strategies develop in linear rate in Cyprus, a fact which stimulated my interest in safer networks and transactions over the Internet, especially in large organizations and offshore companies.

A few months after finishing my MSc degree, I managed to find a job as Systems Administrator in Trust International Insurance company in Cyprus. My duties involve maintaining and updating our nationwide Oracle Database system, ensuring 24/7 uptime, proper backup as well as maintaining the rest of the IT equipment and user training.
