BMW E30 KEYFOB CONVERSION DIY |
This is a DIY for going from this:
To this: - Remote Kit install will follow.
For 10 Euro, I got 2 duplicates of the original key. Make sure you get the duplicates with the all-metal version, not the plastic handle.
Removed the blade from the keyfob to measure what needs to be cut:
Using an angle grinder (yes it's a hard material) I cut the first and second key:
Newly cut key below blanks from keyfob, showing what needs to be removed in order to fit within the remote key enclosure:
Using my dremel, I started to grind just a bit each time, testing fitment.
Had to skim them about 0.5mm, don't worry though, the key won't bend!
The glue I chose to use, is super strong. Once it settles, the key will not be able to be removed from the key carrier. I had a spare keyfob for testing, and I just threw it away, they key would not get out.
Applying glue, aligning and letting it harden.
Removed excess glue and re-assembled the keyfob.
Now, the E30 is too wide so I was going to trim it but I don't know if it acts as a stop when the key goes into the lock, so I chose to grind the plastic housing a bit.
Next step is the installation in the car! |
